Sanlorenzo launches 52m ‘Seven Sins’

The first of the new five-deck  Sanlorenzo 52 Steel line splashes in La Spezia…

On Thursday 26 January, Sanlorenzo Superyacht Division and the owners of Seven Sins celebrated the launch of the first unit in the Sanlorenzo Yachts 52 Steel line. First blessed and then launched from the floating dry dock in the shadow of the shipyard’s new construction shed at its San Marco facility in La Spezia, the yacht will be available for charter and is due to make her debut at the 2017 Monaco Yacht Show.

During his address, Sanlorenzo chairman Massimo Perotti (pictured with microphone above) described the experienced Belgian owner, Hugo Verlinden, as a special client: “I would like to remind you that Hugo’s first experience with Sanlorenzo was in 1978 when he bought a 20m wooden boat from the previous owner of the brand. As that was the largest size that Sanlorenzo built at the time, when he decided to go up in size he then had four yachts by Heesen in the Netherlands. So we are very honoured to have him back with us at Sanlorenzo.”

In effect, Sanlorenzo is one of Heesen’s closest competitors and enticing away a repeat client from the Dutch builder can be regarded as feather in Perotti’s cap.

Building on the experience gained with the smaller Sanlorenzo 46Steel series, the 52Steel has a beam of 9.40m and a gross tonnage of 499GT. Powered by twin MTU12V 4000M63 engines for a top speed of 17 knots and an economical cruising speed of 11 knots, the clean-cut exterior and interior design is by Mauro Michelli of Officina Italiana Design.

Among the new model’s standout features is the glass-bottomed pool on the main deck above the beach club with side platforms below. The beach club also serves as a drive-in garage for an 8m tender, but unlike similar solutions on other yachts, the lifting transom is louvred so that the space is still flooded with natural light when the stern door and platforms are closed.

The opening of the 50,000-sqm site in La Spezia last year was a key part of Sanlorenzo’s plans to expand its range and the brand can now rely on three production sites: the company HQ in Ameglia continues production of the fibreglass range from 78 to 106 feet; the site in Viareggio will focus on the production of composite yachts from 112 to 126 feet; and the La Spezia yard is dedicated to the largest yachts in steel and aluminium (40Alloy, 460Exp, 46Steel, 52Steel, 64Steel and proposed 67Steel).

The day before the launch of Seven Sins, Sanlorenzo announced the sale of a third unit in the 52Steel line, sold in cooperation with West Nautical. Currently in build in La Spezia are the second and third units of the 52Steel, three in the 460Explorer (42m) series, and the first 64Steel (64m), which will become the new Sanlorenzo flagship when delivered in 2019.

Speaking at a press conference during the 2016 Cannes Boat Show, Massimo Perotti said that Sanlorenzo’s total investment for 2017-2019 will be around €60m, comprising €20m for new products and €40m in the shipyards and other assets.

Bavaria Yachts E40 soon to be in Australia

Bavaria’s take on the ever-increasing popularity of the Expedition Cruiser is the new E40. It is available as either a sedan or with flying bridge but for a 40-footer, it comes with something quite special indeed. A green heart. Hybrid power is available for this single engined, shaft driven, semi-displacement vessel, as well as three levels of Diesel power.

Bavaria states that the E in the name stands for Economic, Ecologic, Exploring, Efficient and Emotional. However, quite possibly, it really means extra. On the E40 There is space a plenty, natural light everywhere and a real connection to all that is happening on board and in your general environment too.

So if space is standard, with three cabins and two heads, with showers on board, and the massive saloon, along with the aft deck and swim platform, then the E40 Fly adds even more.

Bavaria Yachtbau’s Business Development Manager, Luca Meffle, commented, “It’s pretty uncommon for a 40-footer to have all this space. It is the result of the efforts of our new product manager for powerboats, Fabio Marcellino. He joined us 18 months ago after 15 years with the Ferretti Group, so he is well and truly an industry icon.”

“In addition to Hybrid power for lakes or natural reserves, you can have options like air conditioning, genset, heating and so on, but uniquely in a vessel like this, you have a proper engine room with a door, so you can walk in and work and maintain on all your engine, batteries, charger, fuses, and so on. Everything is in one compartment, which is in between the aft cabins.”

Now if one of the ‘E’s is efficiency, then it is quite possibly best demonstrated by the hull form that is designed to glide effortlessly through the water in both full and semi-displacement modes. Yet the efficiency also stems from the production process, where vacuum infusion ensures not only complete resin coverage throughout the construction, without any excess, but also the lightest possible mass overall, and importantly, maximum strength.

Both the Bavaria E40 Sedan and Fly have the company’s renowned German engineering, attention to detail and supreme craftsmanship. The generous, innovative interior design and uncompromising comfort are unmistakable and are there to ensure that you achieve the most out of your boating. Two or three cabin versions with two heads are available, as well as all the mod cons like electric sliding panels, genset and aircon. As with the saloon, light and airy remains the consistent theme in the all timber cabins.

This craft will certainly set a new standard on its arrival into Australia and is sure to make any prospective buyer take note of it’s marvelous blend of contemporary style, desire to be environmentally aware and offer exceptional entertainment for all. Quite possibly that will become the starring ‘E’ in the whole equation. We do look forward to finding out for ourselves very soon, indeed.
